"Cymatics is the study of visible sound vibrations, where sound waves create geometric patterns in mediums like sand, water, or pastes"
The idea here was to take 10 different sounds, use a python script to render a Cymatic representation of the audio and then take the visual representation of the audio and create a 3D texture/material with it in Polycam in order to use as a pattern on a soy sauce dish.
The 808
the classic hip hop bass hit is a great starting point since it is mostly a sine wave but you can definitely visually see what the distortion effects does to something as clean as a sine
Cello Chord Gm
Going back to real life instruments is interesting. Especially with chords. I would say it looks as pleasing as it sounds.
Dreamy Piano G#Maj7
FX SpaceCraft
It was important to do sounds that were not musical such as SFX so we could see the difference in waveforms. They are not meant to be uniform but yet you can still see some patterns.
FX Teleportation
Guitar Slide Em
Synth Chord ADim
Synth Hit Cm7Bb
Synth Stab BMinor
Synth Texture "Oxygen"
Going with textures also helps us visualize the difference in thickness in sound. As you can see it seems as if there is more of a pattern that forms.
This might be an unconventional way of going about a design project but I think that since each rendition was something that served a different purpose, it meant a lot to me and also taught me to to blend many mediums into one project too.
